The part that directs our dopamine hormones named Nucleus Accumbens. If you eat chocolate, your Nucleus Accumbens steps in and produces dopamine. Dopamine is a hormone that gives you happiness. So, what is the connection between all of these and the use of social media?

Research made at UCLA showed that at the age of 13-18 are reacting their increasing or decreasing social media likes in the hormonal level. When their likes decreased, their dopamine level was also decreased and when their likes were increased their dopamine levels were increased in the same way.

What Does It Mean?

It means that social media affects our neurology just like the use of drugs or alcohol. The use of social media is in the same class as these addictions, consequently, the use of social media can also be classified as an addiction.
